Calvin Richardson is a contemporary, hip-hop generation version of a classic soul singer. He has appeared on numerous soundtracks including "Bringing Down the House" starring Queen Latifah and Steve Martin. You can listen to reviewed tracks from his new Shanachie Entertainment/NU Mo Records CD debut When Love Comes, released in May 2008. This young man - the press statement reads - is the "New Prince of Soul," and worthy of comparison to Sam Cooke, Bobby Womack and Marvin Gaye genuis.

The Urban Music Awards Show pulled in its base of adult contemporary music lovers from the busy pre-Marathon downtown scene. Style it Up's Ms. TheaB, greeted nominiated artists on the Red Carpet covered Mass Avenue entrance to Berklee Performance Center (April 2008).
Popular genre-specific music and performance category trophys were up for grabs. Some were: Best Male and Female of the Year, Best Male Hip Hop, Best Promoter Company, Best Female DJ, Best Latin Single, Best Gospel Group, the Best Jazz Group, Best Spoken Word, Best Blues Band and others. |view winners|
Skippy White of Skippy White's Records in Roxbury introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award. Live bands took the stage later in the night. They rose above the bustle of crowds, cars and Saturday night street energy in Back Bay to close the show. The UMA team has become an imposing force on the Boston music scene. It is a shining beacon of community inspired African American achievement that had organized to curate, collect and honor aspiring, talented musicians from Black, Latino and other urban households in Boston and New England. Ultimately, its goal may be to sell locally produced records to appreciative fans in the Greater Boston music market and that's alright!
